We made it to Zubiri. The Official goal of yesterday. The day was glorious, with clouds chasing the blue acros rolling hills and valleys. In the forest, the light dappled between leaves, and wild strawberries grew at the base of thickets of wild roses. I have never been anywhere the air smelled better - or eaten so many wild berries picked trailside. Today Cz´s moving slowly was an advantage, as I could always say, "Keep going, I´ll catch up", whenever a strawberry caught my eye. (This wasn´t being mean - if he stopped, his leg muscles would seize up and then hurt).
Cz muscled up and down (Mostly down) slidy, rocky slopes. Despite the cramping legs and nearly twisting ankles, he managed (somehow) to stay cheerful...
Zubiri´s claim to fame is the "Bridge of Rabies". It was originally built by the Romans. Its current form is from the 14th Century. It owes its unusual Monniker to the tradition (apparently continued into the 1990´s) of walking one´s domestic animals (including, but not limited to, sheep, dogs, cats, cows and donkeys) 7 times around its center. This had the effect - so the belief goes - of both curing and preventing rabies. We haven´t seen anyone foaming at the mouth yet, so it must work...

I so very wish I were walking the trail with you - I'd even carry Cz's pack. Glad Cz appreciates your simian strength (I like the mental image -- yes Tah-wanda!!!) ! I am smiling and crying, and praying very hard. In essence your entire trip is a pilgrimage-of-sorts.
Stay well.
